The Karpen Sidestitch Collection

Aireloom beds all provide proper support to your body, while giving you balance and conforming to your body. Each bed contains natural fibers, damask fabrics, and viscoelastic to get the most possible quality and support from the product.

The Karpen sidestitch collection is just one of many types of designs that Aireloom offers. This collection includes four beds, three Rip Van Winkle mattresses and one super featherbed. The Karpen Sidestitch mattress has 42 pounds of cotton in one of its layers for the most comfort possible. This mattress has 560 heritage side stitches (which is where it gets its name) followed by an exclusive coil design for responsive support. The name “Karpen” comes from king Karpen who is the founder of the company dating back to 1940.

Now moving on to different beds in the Sidestitch collection. Three of them are different kinds of the Rip Van Winkle design depending on the firmness. The types include medium firm, luxury firm, and extra-firm. We’ll go into detail on these and afterward we will go into the Karpen sidestitch super featherbed mattress which is uniquely aimed towards people who like soft beds.

Aireloom Karpen Materials: A Breakdown

Before we go into what materials go into each mattress, we though to would help to provide a glossary to explain what each material is. Some of these have been trademarked by Aireloom so we believe this is necessary to understand. These are the names you’ll need to know.

Aireloom karpen sidestitch

Tencel® Fabric: A sustainable fabric reconstructed from wood cellulose. It is soft, flexible, and it provides the mattress with cooling support.

Pillowflex™: A quilting foam that Aireloom claims is more pliable than other materials which is used instead of your traditional quilting foams.

Aireloom Lift™: Between the springs and the mattress top, it is a chamber of air that is used to increase the areas of low pressure and give the feeling of being cradled.

Silk/Wool Fibers: Breathable fibers that help to regulate your body temperature throughout the night.

Talalay Latex: This latex foam is made from natural material and works to maintain a consistent body temperature while you sleep.

Support-flex™ Coils System: Coils that are wrapped individually to allow the coils to all react separate from each other, so they provide specific support and improve motion control.

Rip Van Winkle Beds: Construction:

Now let’s look into what these mattresses are made out of.

Quilt/cover

The Rip Van Winkle mattresses, no matter the firmness, all have a stretch knit cover made from a mix of Tencel and polyester which are used to promote coolness and creates durability. The mattress cover is made out of silk and wool fibers in addition to a layer of firm, high density foam. For the Rip Van Winkle matresses with less firmness there is a layer of Airelooms pillowflex foam to add a touch of softness.

Comfort layer

For the comfort layer, every one of the beds have a ventilated Talalay latex with various levels of thickness depending on the model type. As you can likely guess, the medium firm model has the thickest layer of comfort foam and the extra firm has the thinnest. The comfort section on the mattresses all have a base layer of high density extra-firm foam called Energex™.

All of the Rip Van Winkle mattresses also include an inner-tufted comfort layer which is made of 54 hand tied tufts, 42 pounds of cotton felt and a careful handstitched border with an added edge support made out of high-density foam.

Foundation and Support

A 13 gauge double knotted offset coil is used in the super featherbed mattress and is surrounded by edge support in the form of high-density foam.

Aireloom Karpen Sidestich Mattress Feel

Each of the four beds have a different level of firmness because of the different layers of foam. Their different names will help you identify the types of mattress they are. The Rip Van Winkle extra firm is clearly the firmest followed by medium firm, then the super Featherbed.

The sidestitch series is different from the Karpen Luxury line because of its emphasis of natural cotton and sidestitch design. It is worth taking note that this collection is made from more than 40 pounds of organic cotton which is way softer than your average cotton and is also much stringer and more durable. The side stitches provide the mattress with even more durability and support, especially on the edges of the bed.

Another key thing to note: Motion control is tamed with these mattresses because of the use of double knotted offset coils. Instead of the ends remaining loose, they are looped and double knotted, making an hourglass shape. This feature in addition to the use of heavy gauge wires makes the coil structure pliable and strong to prevent motion transfer and providing as much durability possible.

Finally, the Patented Aireloom Lift™ that was mentioned earlier in the glossary is important to point out again. The ‘Aireloom lift’ is to increase the areas of low pressure and provide a feeling of being cradled.

Aireloom Karpen Luxury Vs. Others

You are likely wondering how Aireloom Sidestitch mattresses compare to other brands of mattresses. The closest bed to our innerspring luxury bed is the Beautyrest black mattress. This mattress contains pocketed coil technology and luxury comfort foam to provide a medium firmness. These mattresses are also similar prices.

For a more affordable option, you may want to consider The Winkbed. This bed has a double coil construction that makes the mattress have a solid support system in order to adjust to your body as you change your sleeping position. The DreamCloud is also a rather similar option because it has foam and wrapped coil components to give a firm innerspring lift and pressure relief.

If you want the feeling of an innerspring mattress but memory foam interests you, then Tomorrow Sleep (a hybrid bed with a memory foam layer) would be a good option for you. If you prefer to have Aireloom memory foam, then Bel Air Karpen Luxury mattress would be best.
